It’s my birthday this week, and I got a rather sweet present from my old housechum Ding – Scott Pilgrim Vol. 1. Ding had bought several copies to be signed by Bryan Lee O’Malley, but Mr. O’Malley was only signing one item. This is what Ding wrote in the front of my copy.

Oh, Mantic. You were doing so well, and then you had to go and do a Wyrd on us. Why must excellent miniature-making companies inevitably produce half-baked rule sets? I suppose it’s a logical enough progression, from a business point of view, but it takes a different set of skills to produce a solid game system than to make a nice miniature, and I fear the kind of Leonerdo da Vinci who possesses both sets…
Thanks for the wheels. Mrs. Von is still laughing at the, ahm, unconventional addressing practice. I was flattered. Saucepot.
Aye, I managed to find a sixth there so you no longer have to stoop to the low of Orcy conversions.
I’m actually rather interested in seeing how the rules work. Mantic have the massive advantage over GW of no legacy engine. It’s a completely blank slate that they can conjure anything onto, and we could get something quite nimble and pure. I’d be popping along to their open day were I not running the Stockport Stockade.
Oh, and now I have your address you’re in for the Ninjabread Christmas Card. Tee hee.
